(Almost) Every year since the 1950s the California Arguelles/Miccio/Aguilar Family (descendants of Angel and Concepción) gets together around Christmas time to play games, eat and sing songs. One tradition is to sing the 12 Days of Christmas, with different groups singing each day. The smallest of children are dressed as elves and help distribute the presents. A piñata is always present. Grandma Concepción handed out envelopes with money in it to each of the children and grandchildren.

The California Arguelles Family Christmas Party 2019, at the home of Mike and Rebecca Aguilar
Dear family,
It is unfortunate that the Family Christmas Party had to be cancelled this year due to icy roads and freezing temperatures, but safety first is always a good rule to live by.
Since Paradise Lost nomads Ana and Becky had flown down for the party, Rebecca invited them over to our house for a get together since she didn't want the tamales to go to waste. They were staying with Rose so she decided to come over too. Sister Martha was in the neighborhood, so she joined us, and brought along her kids and grand kids. And Rebecca's side of our family is always up for a good time and family bonding, so before you know it, we had a Plan B ad hoc alternative emergency last minute impromptu Family Christmas Party (and talent show!) with most of our immediate family.
We didn't do the dice game or pinata, and not everybody got a present, but Rose led us in the 12 Days of Christmas to make the party count as the official 77th annual Family Christmas Party. Let's keep it going; I plan to be there for the 100th.
Rebecca and I, along with several of the cousins and friends will shortly be off for the Viking Rhine River cruise, and enjoying castles on the Rhine and Christmas Markets in northern Europe, and we hope you all have a very enjoyable holiday season with your friends and family. And in the immortal words of Tiny Tim, "A Merry Christmas to us all, and God bless us all, everyone."
Mike (Aguilar)
