Lilia was born in Matamoros, Mexico on October 28, 1918 to Bibian Martinez and Lilia Zolezzi de Martinez. Having lost her father a few days after being born, she was raised by her mother until the age of 12. At that age, her mother followed in passing away. She was then placed in custody of her aunt, Luisa Zolezzi Arguelles. Lilia always remembered "La Tia Luisita" as her second mother.

During her youth, Lilia was educated at the Colegio Mexico school in Matamoros. She is remembered as an exemplary student who excelled in all her classes, most notably in mathematics. In 1947, Lilia married Medardo Sanchez Vargas, a native of Guanajuato and a prominent banker. Lilia and Medardo resided in Matamoros and together had four children. After Medardo's passing in 1966, Lilia remained committed to raising her children. However, she would also begin working as a self-employed seamstress. She designed and tailored mainly women's and children's apparel. She continued this line of work until her latter years.

Throughout her life, Lilia was a parishioner of the Matamoros Cathedral, Nuestra Senora del Refugio. In addition to being a devout Catholic, Lilia was a devotee of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Lilia's favorite past times included gardening; enjoying summer afternoons at South Padre Island; and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and extended family members. Throughout her life, Lilia maintained a close bond with her cousins and viewed some of her female cousins as sisters. She imparted the value of strong family bonds to her children and grandchildren, and as a result, this closeness with extended family continues between her descendants and their relatives.

Lilia was diagnosed with cancer in late 1997, and passed away in January 1998. She is interred alongside her parents and other family members at her family's tomb located inside the Matamoros Cemetery "Panteon Nuevo".

Bibian married Lilia Esther Zolezzi Argüelles. Lilia (daughter of Juan Bautista Zolezzi Lopez and Modesta Argüelles Manso) was born on 16 May 1896 in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, México; died on 26 Sep 1930 in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, México. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
